Colorado Crowns Crawford as New 14.1 State Champion By Samm Diep, PoolTipJar.com On Saturday, July 11, an impromptu Colorado State Straight Pool Championship was presented by Pete Way and the Denver Straight Pool Association. The beautiful Rack ‘Em Billiards of Aurora, with its well-kept 9-foot Diamond tables was the perfect host room for the championship. “I try to do what I can to keep the pool players happy,” said owner Sean Meade regarding all his recent money-added events. On this day, a small field of the top straight pool junkies from the mile high city rolled in. After losing his first match, Jeff Crawford came back to defeat Rick Field 150-89 in a single race finals match. The state champion received a paid $350 entry to the NCS 14.1 Continuous Championships in Parsippany, NJ, July 31 to August 2. Crawford will be representing Colorado for the second time at another NCS Championship. “He came out firing,” said Way regarding Crawford’s performance in the finals. Crawford was determined not to let the title slip away from him after losing a heartbreaker his first match, 100-99. There were no significant high runs, only very smart, steady moves. The next NCS qualifier at [...]

Dechaine Wins World Summit of Pool, Morris Forfeits World Summit of Pool / Las Vegas, NV by InsidePOOL Staff Mike Dechaine defeated Thorsten “Hitman” Hohmann at the World Summit of Pool, taking home the lion’s share of the prize fund and top honors to boot. Hosted by the Riviera Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, NV, the $20,000-added event was sponsored by McDermott Handcrafted Cues, Instroke Cases, Ivan Simonis Cloth, Aramith Balls, Delta-13 Rack, Quick-Clean, and Diamond Tables. “Rocket” Rodney Morris, always a favorite, was poised to possibly take the hot seat match and await an opponent in the finals. One of the final four undefeated players, he sent Keith Bennett to the one-loss side to advance to the hot seat match to face off against Dechaine, who had earlier bested Roberto Gomez of the Philippines. Inexplicably, with the score knotted at 3-all in the race to 13, Morris broke down his cue and quit the match. He was disqualified from the event, which allowed Hohmann to skate through the semifinal match to reach the finals against Dechaine. In the final four on the one-loss side, Steve Moore ousted John Morra to take on Gomez, whom he also eliminated to [...]

This $20,000-added UPA event is sponsored by McDermott Handcrafted Cues, Instroke Cases, Ivan Simonis Cloth, Aramith Balls, Delta-13 Rack, Quick-Clean, and Diamond Tables. Leading the top half of the winners’ side bracket, “Rocket” Rodney Morris won his match over Canada’s John Morra and will next play Keith Bennett, who sent “Mad Max” Eberle to the left side of the chart. On the bottom half of the winners’ side bracket, Roberto Gomez of the Philippines defeated Germany’s Ralph Eckert and will meet Mike Dechaine, who earlier bested Walter Glass to advance. On the one-loss side of the chart, Steve Moore, who suffered a second-round loss to Dechaine, is still alive. He ousted Eberle and will next play Morra. To help kick off the week, the tour wishes to welcome on board its latest event sponsor, Instroke Cases. Instroke is the official case for this year’s World Summit of Pool event. In addition, the tour would very much like to express its gratitude for the continuous sponsorship from four of the top companies in the billiard industry that provide the tour with its official products: Ivan Simonis Cloth, Aramith Balls, Delta-13 Rack, and Diamond Tables as the title sponsor. This annual event has been a staple in the professional pool community for numerous years and looks to be another fantastic opportunity for the men to strut their stuff at the game of 9-ball in this championship arena with an incentive of $20,000 guaranteed added.
